Welcome to the Travolution Summit 2017
30 Euston Square, Kings Cross, London | Thursday 28 September 2017
This year we will focus on the impact emerging technologies like A.I. and machine learning are having on the travel sector. Under our strapline ‘Smarter, Digital, Travel’, we set out to bring delegates the latest in bleeding edge thinking about what this actually means for their companies today. In travel, providing the best frictionless customer experience is seen as the new loyalty, so it's the practical application of emerging technology that we want to showcase.
Last year’s Summit was one of our most successful yet with delegates saying they valued the mix of speakers including some from outside of the travel sector like The Future Laboratory’s Tracey Follows and the BMJ’s Sharon Cooper. This year, as well as some of the biggest names in travel appearing in mainstage sessions, we’ll also be looking to highlight best practice from outside of travel.
Our new headline sponsor business systems provider Equiniti is one of four Workshop providers also including consumer review specialist Reevoo, customer service platform Zendesk and Amadeus, which will focus on best practice in programmatic marketing. The day-long Summit will kick off with the launch of a new European travel market report from Travolution parent Travel Weekly in association with Travelport and Mastercard.
We will then look at new EU data laws due to come in next year with our sponsor CloudIQ, with expert analysis on what this means for efforts to exploit client data to improve the customer experience.
The afternoon will once again feature our popular start-up pitch session, with three young companies coming under the watchful gaze of our panel of industry ‘dragons’.
Before this Nena Chaletzos, who pitched her start-up luxury travel agent LuxTripper in 2013, will explain how she has become a B2B provider artificial intelligence technology that promises to supercharge travel firms’ online conversion rates. Her new business Travel Genetics won a place in the prestigious Silicon Valley start-up incubator Plug and Play.
Tickets: £249 + VAT. Click here to book.
Weekly Europe’s first pan-European Insight report will provide an overview of
the major EU travel markets, comparing and contrasting developments and trends
in Germany, the UK and France and Travolution Summit delegates will be the first to see it.
It will balance key data points and independent
editorial with insight from partners Mastercard and Travelport to present
concise analysis of the markets, the level of online penetration, mobile
adoption, distribution and payment technology, changing behaviours and key
trends – with a primary focus on outbound leisure.
Be a consumer champion - how to do the right thing with consumer data and make it work for you
Ahead of Friday May 25, 2018, the day new EU legislation comes into force in the UK, every digital brand will need to review the way they collect, store and use personal consumer information.
In this session Cloud IQ will give delegates an outline of the main changes to the law and reveal findings from new research asking consumers how they want and expect their data to be used.
how you can work within the laws to build a consumer data strategy that puts
the consumer first, ensures the privacy of your consumers and protects your own
brand. Using the latest innovations in technology, we’ll explain how you can
apply the new laws to create a positive customer experience - driving trust,
engagement and ultimately, conversions.
With data fast becoming the bedrock of any successful business how are firms today starting to using Artificial Intelligence to make sense of this deluge of information and how will they in the future? What are the implications of technological advances in this area on emerging customer interfaces like voice search and mobile?
This session will see
Sam Turner, Hotelbeds sales director, address these issues and more. Turner
leads the global hotel wholesaler’s sales and
distribution teams across all brands and channels covering more than 120 source
markets. Turner previously worked for Tui Group as B2B division A&D
division finance director and director of finance, performance, and planning at
British entrepreneur Jeremy Jauncey, is the founder and CEO of one the world’s fastest growing media companies - Beautiful Destinations - creating digital first content for tourism boards across the globe. Started in 2012, Beautiful Destinations is today the world’s largest travel community on social media with more than 15 million followers in 180 countries.
In this session Justin Reid, head of destinations at TripAdvisor, will explain how, in a bewildering world of choice, chatbots and artificial intelligence will increasingly be deployed to fast track customers to the best possible option for them for their trip.
challenge for travel is how the information that’s most relevant to that
particular customer can be surfaced quickly and efficiently every time to
reassure them that there’s no better deal still out there waiting to be
unearthed and they have found the ideal option for them.
Join ADARA and a selection of travel industry panellists to discuss 'people based marketing' as a potential solution to marketers' current and future needs
We live in a world where we seek inspiration for our next dream getaway on our phones during our commute, research the best deals on our iPad on front of the TV, book it on our computer at work and then post our live snaps on social media from our sunbeds.
With a path to purchase this complicated, can travel marketers truly track the effectiveness of a channel based Marketing strategy?
The solution many seek is to try and build
individual personal connections with every consumer, but is this actually
possible and if so, how?
Utilising cross-border payments to gain a market edge
Significant changes in regulation can risk compromising revenue streams for travel businesses, but there are also opportunities available if approached correctly. In this workshop, EQ Global will be providing an insight into how travel businesses can effectively utilise cross-border payments processes, including:
- The main changes affecting cross-border payments processes under new PSD2 regulation
- Opportunities for new revenue streams
- How to remain relevant to customers and markets
- How to maximise profits between customer receipt and supplier payment
- Opportunity to create efficiencies in global payment processing
Analysing and influencing the consumer path to purchase
This data-driven workshop will examine online consumer behaviour and how travel players can leverage unique data to drive performance. We will discuss how Native, Social and Programmatic are all means to an end: influencing consumers through brand positioning, selling products and/or inspiring choice of destination.

In 2013 Luxtripper, a new online luxury travel agent was one of our start-up which pitched their business plan to a panel of experts and the audience at that year’s Travolution Summit.
Four years on the company has survived the difficult start-up stage to establish itself as a leading upmarket agent but, maybe more significantly, this year has launched a spin-off venture called Travel Genetics offering Artificial Intelligence technology it built in-house to improve conversions by better understanding product so it can be matched to customer requirements.
has brought the firm to the attention of a leading Silicon Valley start-up
incubator and seen Travel Genetics establish
pilots with some of the world’s leading travel brands.
A favourite among Summit regulars, this session will once again put three ambitious entrepreneurs in the spotlight as they pitch their start-ups to the audience and a panel of three seasoned travel bosses.
After their elevator pitch each presenter will face questions from the panel and then we will ask the audience for their judgement. Which will the delegate decide has the best opportunity to make a real splash in travel? We’ll find out
Start-up pitch companies include:
Sujester - A travel inspiration platform and lead generator for travel firms
Dreamcheaper - A hotel shopping application that keeps looking for cheaper deals after you’ve booked
Horizon Guides - A content platform to help tour operators reach audiences at a fraction of the usual cost
The final part of the 2017 Summit will begin with a practical look at how Artificial Intelligence and machine learning fuelled by greater insight from data capture and analytics is already transforming the travel industry.
We will look a real-life examples of technologies that are being used right now to redefine the customer experience, how these are being implemented to provide a more frictionless and stress-free user experience and how firms that embrace this approach will be best placed to capture the sort of loyalty among customers that is so elusive in the sector.

OTA Teletext Holidays has
started using Sayint, Artificial Intelligence technology developed by Zen3 that
turns verbal interactions into text that can be analysed to improve the way it
serves people who call its contact centre.
In this session we will hear how this is allowing Teletext to focus on improving brand reputation not just among those callers who convert but those who do not by pinpointing best practice and integrating sentiment from other forms of feedback like reviews and social media posts.
Are a new generation of
machines and super algorithms about to dominate travel and if they do would
that be a bad thing? What happens when intelligent computers able to process
vast quantities of data in a fraction of the time that any human being is
capable of start to know your customers better than you can ever hope to? These
and other questions the march of technology raises will be discussed by our
